Understanding consequences of baby passports in Qatar without marriage

According to embassy officials, giving birth to illegitimate child results in a jail sentence on average and is illegal under Qatari law. The majority of unmarried women are stuck in a situation. Some leave the country to avoid prosecution, but some choose to stay in the hope of not getting into trouble with the government. Some are unable to leave because their sponsors won’t issue them exit permits.

Although giving birth outside a wedlock is no longer a punishable offense in the UAE; the same cant be true for Qatar and other GCC countries.

How do they authorize the baby passports in Qatar?

The parents of the newborn can start by making an application to their respective embassy. Additionally, they would also need to provide the following:

  • Fee of 20 QAR.
  • Passport-size photos of the baby,
  • the residence permit of the parents and
  • copies of the parent’s passports.

What after-effects of unmarried women being pregnant out of wedlock?

As per Qatar law, the baby will be considered illegal if an unmarried woman will give birth without marriage. Also, these women may get deported. Besides this, there is also an issue with the registration of birth certificates and passports. Without a marriage certificate, both of the documents can’t be authorised for the baby.

Recommendations for giving the best piece of advice for couples:

Although giving birth to a child out of wedlock is unacceptable according to Qatar laws. Most expat women settled there due to their jobs, and are in the situation of having an unexpected pregnancy before marriage.

Legal marriage process for Qatar expats moving to Canada

Are you a Qatar expat planning to create a family and a new life in Canada and have questions regarding the legal marriage process? Read the full article and we will provide you with the best recommendations for a stress-free experience.

Immigration laws in Canada

Couples who have never lived together have limited options for bringing someone into Canada as their legally recognized spouse. The only option is a legally recognized marriage in which both of you were physically present.

If you and your partner live in a GCC country, you should be aware of the challenges of getting married there. Many couples have chosen alternative options such as going to Georgia or even getting married online. If you want to move to Canada, however, getting married online is not the best option.

Why doesn’t Canada accept online weddings?

Prior to 2015, Canada permitted marriages done online when one or both spouses were not physically present for immigration purposes. The only stipulation was that the marriage is legally recognized in the country in which it occurred.

The Canadian government, on the other hand, no longer recognizes this. The prohibition of internet marriage was made primarily to address women’s vulnerability in the immigration situation.

Recommendation to have a legal marriage in Canada as a Qatar expat

Virtual marriage is not recognized as valid in Canada. However,  many countries, like Georgia, Seychelles, and the United Arab Emirates (for non-Muslims), provide simple wedding options. These countries have less paperwork and are better suited for foreigners who want to get married quickly and without hassle.

Abortion law in the UAE

The UAE is home to a large number of expat couples. However, they aren’t informed about UAE law when it comes to starting a family, having a relationship, or having an abortion.

In the United Arab Emirates, abortion is illegal. Anyone who aborts a child/assists in the abortion of a child is committing a criminal act, according to the laws.

What is the law in the United Arab Emirates regarding abortion?

Anyone who aborts a pregnancy and conspires to do so is guilty of a criminal offense, according to Article 340 of Federal Law No. 3 of 1987 on the issuance of the penal code.

“Anyone who deliberately aborts a pregnant woman by giving her medication or through any other means that leads to abortion faces a maximum punishment of five years in jail,” the statute clearly specifies. If the offense is committed without her consent, the sentence would be close to about 7years.”

New laws concerning children born out of wedlock

The most current UAE Penal Law includes a new provision for parenting children born out of wedlock. Anyone who engages in sexual activity with a woman over the age of 18. When giving birth to a child faces a minimum of two years in prison.

The couple, on the other hand, will not face criminal charges if they marry, confess joint or separate parental responsibility for the child, and issue the child’s official documents and passport in line with the laws of the country in which either is a national, as well as UAE law.

Recommendations for pregnant mothers who are not in wedlock

According to the New Personal Laws of 2021. Women who become pregnant outside of marriage will be provided with all legal comforts and would be cared for. However, it’s important to remember that conception outside of marriage might have serious long-term repercussions.

We advise pregnant women to consider other options, such as marrying the child’s father if the two have already discussed starting a family. Many nations, like Georgia and Seychelles, make it quite simple for couples to obtain their marriage license in two weeks.

If you expecting a sudden pregnancy; and marriage is on the cards; book a call with our team of expert legal wedding planners.
