The UAE is home to a large number of expat couples. However, they aren’t informed about UAE law when it comes to starting a family, having a relationship, or having an abortion.

In the United Arab Emirates, abortion is illegal. Anyone who aborts a child/assists in the abortion of a child is committing a criminal act, according to the laws.

What is the law in the United Arab Emirates regarding abortion?

Anyone who aborts a pregnancy and conspires to do so is guilty of a criminal offense, according to Article 340 of Federal Law No. 3 of 1987 on the issuance of the penal code.

“Anyone who deliberately aborts a pregnant woman by giving her medication or through any other means that leads to abortion faces a maximum punishment of five years in jail,” the statute clearly specifies. If the offense is committed without her consent, the sentence would be close to about 7years.”

New laws concerning children born out of wedlock

The most current UAE Penal Law includes a new provision for parenting children born out of wedlock. Anyone who engages in sexual activity with a woman over the age of 18. When giving birth to a child faces a minimum of two years in prison.

The couple, on the other hand, will not face criminal charges if they marry, confess joint or separate parental responsibility for the child, and issue the child’s official documents and passport in line with the laws of the country in which either is a national, as well as UAE law.

Recommendations for pregnant mothers who are not in wedlock

According to the New Personal Laws of 2021. Women who become pregnant outside of marriage will be provided with all legal comforts and would be cared for. However, it’s important to remember that conception outside of marriage might have serious long-term repercussions.

We advise pregnant women to consider other options, such as marrying the child’s father if the two have already discussed starting a family. Many nations, like Georgia and Seychelles, make it quite simple for couples to obtain their marriage license in two weeks.
